Questions raised over PM’s pre-election vow of handsomeness after failure to charm IMF chief

ISLAMABAD/DUBAI – Prime Minister Imran Khan has been accused of taking yet another U-turn after his pre-election vow of handsomeness was brought under scrutiny on Monday.

Question marks were raised over the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) election manifesto clearly underlining party chief’s ‘handsomeness’, when PM Khan failed to charm International Monetary Fund (IMF) Chief Christine Lagarde during their meeting on the sidelines of the World Government Summit in Dubai last Sunday.

Sources privy to the meeting reveal that despite PM Khan being present in all his visible glory, dressed to kill and turning on the style, IMF conditions on the bailout to Pakistan remained exactly as they were.

Questions being asked by political analysts across the country pertain to the credentials of ‘handsomeness’ as a qualification for election contestants.

“Maybe, just maybe, I am not saying it categorically, but maybe the handsomeness of the election candidate might not translate into governance skills – as much as one had expected at least,” noted prominent analyst Rauf Klasra.

However, PTI critics, and opposition leaders, have gone harder on the premier, hinting at the possibility that the party chief might have actually lied on the manifesto.

“They promised handsomeness, where is the handsomeness? The PTI has taken a U-turn on handsomeness,” said former Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah.
