MQM zonal office, illegal structures demolished in Sukkur

KARACHI: On the Supreme Court’s (SC) order, Sukkur Municipal Corporation, assisted by police, on Thursday demolished many illegal structures, including the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) zonal office in Sukkur.

Men from the party offered resistance to the demolishing teams when they reached to bulldoze the zonal office at the city’s Jinnah Baag Chowk.

The police, however, arrested two MQM members for offering resistance. Later, the operation was resumed and the party office was demolished.

The Sukkur Municipal Corporation (SMC) told the media that the operation in the city would continue until removing all encroachments and illegal structures.

Equipped with heavy machinery, Sukkur Municipal Corporation has launched a massive anti-encroachment operation in the city. The affected people have been protesting against the action. However, local administration had issued notices to those involved in encroachments on footpaths and other areas of government in the city.
