Nawaz’s symptoms of pain, numbness ‘unidentified’, says medical board

–Maryam slams govt for not releasing Nawaz’s medical records

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has “unidentified” symptoms of pain in both his arms, particularly at night, and numbness of toes, a special medical board that examined him at the Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore said on Saturday.

The three-member board, led by Prof Dr Shahid Hameed and comprising Associate Professor Dr Sajjad Ahmed as well as Assistant Professor Dr Hamid Khalil of the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC), recommended further tests, including TROP-I, echocardiography and stress thallium scan [in case TROP-I test is negative].

“Patient Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, 69, was examined by the special medical board. He is a known case of diabetes mellitus and hypertension for the past 10 years. He is also a known case of ischemic heart disease since 2001,” the report prepared by the medical broad read.

Stating the details of the incarcerated Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo, the report said, “The patient has vague symptoms of pain in both arms particularly at night and numbness of toes. He can walk 45 minutes without any significant symptoms. He denied any symptoms of dizziness, pre-syncope or syncope. His hemodynamics were also within normal limits. He is on dual antiplatelets, beta blocker, amlodipine, ARB’S and stains with anti-diabetic treatment.”

MARYAM SLAMS GOVT:

Meanwhile, daughter of the incarcerated former premier, Maryam Nawaz, has hit out at the government for not releasing the official medical reports of her father.

In a tweet, she said the medical boards formed by the federal government had examined him on January 16.

Yet, she said, the only information the Sharif family received was from media reports, which she deemed as “alarming”.

“We’re still in the dark as to what his actual condition is. Access to official reports still awaited,” her tweet read.
