LAHORE: A man was sentenced to death on Friday over the rape of a female medical student in 2016.
The verdict was announced by a special court constituted to tackle sexual violence.
Reading out the verdict, Additional Sessions Judge Rehmant Ali handed the culprit Waqas Khalid a life sentence and slapped a fine of Rs0.5 million.
Waqas had kidnapped and raped the medical student in 2016 and then released her. However, an FIR [first information report] over the matter was registered after student’s medical examination was performed at a private hospital.
The verdict announced on Friday explained that witness accounts and arguments presented by lawyers proved Waqas was guilty.
The culprit was then taken out of the court premises and shifted to jail.
