ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi on Thursday directed the Pakistan Railways to conduct an inquiry into the theft of a few items from the historic building belonging to Jhelum Railways.
While hearing a representation against the recommendation of Wafaqi Mohtasib at Aiwan-e-Sadr, the president directed Pakistan Railways to install a safety gate to safeguard the particular building.
“Located near Railway Crossing, Lalazar Colony in Jhelum, the building had once been used as a dak/police chowki in Sher Shah Suri’s era,” said a statement released by the President House.
President Alvi further called for the preservation of national heritage of archaeological value for the promotion of tourism activities.
He also directed the National History and Heritage Division to submit a comprehensive report containing essential details alongside remedial measures to protect the said railway station.
