ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday said the government was fully cognizant of the deliberate propaganda campaign unleashed against its policy regarding media.
Speaking to the heads of different departments of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, he said there was a need to expose the propaganda while taking media on board as no civilized and responsible society could allow propagation of baseless and fabricated stories.
“Links with the media should further be strengthened in order to discourage the trend of baseless stories.”
He said the government was pursuing structural reforms as per its election manifesto in order to bring change in the country and its efforts were not aimed at serving personal interests but directed towards bringing improvements in the country and lives of the people.
The premier asked the Information Ministry to play its role in projecting the government’s reforms agenda and its objectives. He further said that a strong, vibrant and responsible media played a pivotal role in the development of the country.
“The [information] ministry should play a more proactive role to keep the people abreast of the government’s policies through media,” he said.
The premier also said that public relations officers of the ministries should play a more active role in ensuring access to accurate information to the media.
The meeting was attended by Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry, special assistants to the prime minister Iftikhar Durrani and Yousaf Baig Mirza as well as Information Secretary Shafqat Jalil.
