CM seeks practical steps to curb crime

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar said on Thursday that practical steps should be taken to curb crime because nothing was more important than the protection of life and property of the people.

Presiding over a high-level meeting to review the law and order situation as well as steps to curb crime in the province, the chief minister said that a result-oriented strategy should be adopted to overcome robbery and other criminal activities.

He directed the officials concerned to launch a vigorous province-wide campaign to arrest proclaimed offenders and present to him a weekly report of the progress.

The meeting also decided that immediate steps should be taken to dispose of pending cases in time.

Buzdar made it clear that police officers concerned will be held accountable in case of an increase in crime rate and officers showing negligence in protecting the life and property of the citizens will be held answerable.

“Without going into the jugglery of figures, practical steps should be taken to eradicate crime and meetings regarding law and order situation should be regularly held to review the situation on the ground. I will also regularly monitor the law and order situation because eradication of crime is the top-most priority of the government,” he said.

Buzdar directed that refresher courses should be conducted to train police on modern lines and the force should also observe a “politeness week”.

“The officers should keep their doors open to solve the problems of the people and visitors should witness a positive change at police stations.”
