Can’t explain why images of Punjab Assembly pop up when one searches for ‘clueless’: Google CEO

PALO ALTO/LAHORE – The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Google, Sundar Pichai, has said that he can’t explain why exactly the images of the Punjab Assembly building in Lahore pop up when users enter ‘clueless’ in the search bar.

The statement comes a week after Google formally asked members of the Punjab Assembly to look up the word ‘clueless’ in Google Images in response to a recent resolution brought to the chamber by a member.

The company Grammarly offered its help to the chamber as well because the august members failed to draft the proper spelling of the word ‘idiot’, while referencing a similar case in the US, following which images of the United States Capitol building begin to show among the top results of searches for both ‘idiots’ (in plural) and ‘clueless’ in the US.

Pichai was summoned to United States Congress recently and grilled regarding concerns for Google’s neutrality. During the hearing Pichai also had to explain that an iPhone is not built by Google.

Meanwhile, for Pakistani users a cursory Google search of the word ‘clueless’ brings forth an image of the Punjab assembly in the first five results displayed by the search engine.

Renowned justice activist Zaid Hamid has vowed to follow up on Punjab Assembly’s resolution and take the matter to International Court of Justice (ICJ) in Hague.
