Ceremony held in remembrance of APS attack martyrs, survivors

PESHAWAR: A special ceremony was held on Sunday to pay tribute to the martyrs and survivors of the Army Public School (APS) Peshawar attack.

The ceremony started with a special prayer for the martyrs, followed by the national anthem. A smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Army presented the guard of honour. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Shah Farman laid a floral wreath at the martyrs’ monument and offered prayers for the departed souls. Later, he joined the families of the martyrs in a large gathering of locals, schoolchildren and staff for the recitation of the Holy Quran within the school premises.

Interacting with the families of the martyrs, the governor said that the entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with the bereaved families. He said that the APS tragedy united the nation against terrorism. Peshawar Corps Commander Lt Gen Shaheen Mazhar Mehmood was also present on the occasion.

On December 16, 2014, six terrorists had stormed the school and martyred 147 persons which included students and teachers. The incident shook the country and resulted in the formation of a National Action Plan (NAP) to stem extremism and terrorism from the country, as well as the creation of military courts to try hardcore terrorists.
