SHC summons FIA DG in missing children case

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director general (DG) to appear before it on the next hearing in the case of 20 missing children belonging to Karachi.

A two-member bench of the SHC heard the petition and remarked that the families of these children are worried sick over the non-recovery of their children.

The police officials produced a recovered girl before the court and told the court that the girl was sexually assaulted, a fact confirmed by medical reports.

The police also told the court that the accused, Waqas, who sexually assaulted the girl and then threw her outside her home in an unconsciousness condition is her relative.  The court expressed annoyance at the police for not arresting the predator.

The bench then directed the Sindh inspector general of police (IGP) to look into the matter and summoned the FIA DIG on the next hearing, remarking that FIA and police should jointly take steps to recover all missing children.

Expressed displeasure for recovering only one child out of the 20 missing ones, the court directed the FIA DIG to appear before on every hearing until all children are recovered.

The bench also ordered the police to apply modern technology for recovering of children and it directed police officials to provide a progress report on the matter till December 20.

Another woman, mother of a missing girl named Muneeza, told the bench that her 12-year-old child has been missing for two years.

The court adjourned the hearing till December 20.
