Hearings halted as lawyers continue protests for regional LHC benches

LAHORE: Lawyers in Sahiwal, Sargodha, Faisalabad and Gujranwala on Wednesday continued protesting for the establishment of high court benches in their respective districts.

They are asking for circuit benches to ensure speedy and cheaper justice for the people of their regions.

In Faisalabad, the disruption took another turn as lawyers closed the doors to the consumer court, thus barring petitioners from entering the premises. They held a sit-in outside the sessions court which led to a traffic jam on University road.

The registry branch, land record centre and district offices are also closed.

This wave of unrest from the lawyers’ community has led to delay in case hearings across the province.

It is pertinent to mention that last month, the lawyers in Faisalabad had stormed a Faisalabad court and started damaging property, creating a ruckus. They had also damaged chairs and a police mobile in the court premises, claiming that formation of benches was their basic right.

Barring into the office of Deputy Commissioner Sardar Saifullah Dogar, they found out that he was not present, and trouped to the committee room where Dogar was chairing a session, creating disturbances and disrupting the proceedings.
