ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Police arrested 10 culprits who were illegally occupying private properties, besides recovering arms and ammunition after an encounter.
Officers of the Noon police station on Wednesday received information regarding firing between two groups of land grabbers at Zamurd Valley along the motorway. Following this information, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Waqar Uddin Syed constituted special police teams and sent them at the site.
The police teams were resisted by the land grabbers but they succeeded in overpowering 10 thugs while some of their accomplices managed to escape. The nabbed persons have been identified as Mohsin Shah, Asad, Qaisar, Nadeem Iqbal, Tanveer Akhtar, Basharat, Tanveer, Fakhar Zaman, Nazir and Fazal.
Police also recovered three pistols, three SMGs, one 12 bore rifle and 200 rounds, whereas cases have been registered against both groups under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA). The police have further ensured that they will arrest the absconding criminals who opened fire on them.
Meanwhile, Islamabad Khana and Koral police stations have also registered cases against land grabbers and further investigation is underway.
SSP Waqar said that Islamabad Police is committed to the elimination of qabza mafia from the Capital. He further directed all police officers to continue the crackdown against illegal occupations.
He said that it is the police’s prime responsibility to ensure the protection of lives and property of citizens and this would be done at every cost.
