ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the Functional Committee on Government Assurances on Tuesday stated that the quota system of employment is extremely essential to mitigate grievances amongst smaller provinces and underprivileged areas of the country.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Senator Muhammad Tahir Khan Bizinjo and was attended by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan, Senator Usman Khan Kakar, Senator Dr Asad Ashraf, Senator Asif Kirmani, Senator Krishna Kumari and senior officers of various ministries and divisions.

Since the implementation of the quota is a problematic subject, it was stressed that the relevant ministry would need to look into the implementation of the quota system in letter and spirit is a matter that needs to be looked into.

In response to a question asked by Senator Kakar regarding the completion of work on the double road between G-13 and G-14, the committee was assured that work on the project would begin within a month and will be completed by February 2018.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs said that he agreed that this quota needs to be extended and that the bill in this regard should be reviewed again since business has lapsed.  He stressed the need for the opposition to play its role in Constitutional amendments.

Discussing the present status of the assurance given by the communication minister in the Senate sitting held on January 26, 2018, the committee was informed that the whole road from Taxila to Haripur was 42.5 km, out of which 31km has been completed using NHA funds.  The committee was assured that the road would be completed by the end of this financial year.
