Govt committed to devolution of power: Ali Amin Gandapur

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Ali Amin Khan Gandapur on Tuesday reiterated that the federal government is committed to the devolution of power.

He was chairing the second meeting of the committee to examine the constitutional and administrative reforms for Gilgit-Baltistan in Islamabad on Tuesday. Federal Minister for Law Farogh Naseem, Gilgit-Baltistan governor, attorney general of Pakistan, federal secretary defence, federal secretary Kashmir affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan chief secretary, Gilgit-Baltistan Council joint secretary and higher officials of foreign ministry also attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed the issues pertaining to the constitutional and administrative empowerment of Gilgit-Baltistan. The report of the subcommittee headed by the attorney general was presented in the meeting. The meeting had a detailed discussion on different suggestions and proposals of the sub-committee.

Speaking on the occasion, Gandapur said that Gilgit Baltistan region would be empowered constitutionally and administratively according to wishes of the people of the area. While discussing the different proposals and suggestions of the sub-committees, it was agreed in the meeting that wishes of the people of the area would be given the top priority and overall national interest of the country would be safeguarded at the same time.

Federal Minister for Law Farogh Naseem was of the opinion that this important matter required more time so that all aspects and effects of any such decision could be weighed accordingly.

The meeting also appreciated the efforts of the sub-committee in furnishing the report in a short span of time.
