SHC summons LEA official with phone call record in missing persons case

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday ordered a Rangers officer to appear before the court along with his phone call record.

A two-member bench of the SHC, while hearing the petition seeking recovery of missing persons, remarked that the case of missing persons should be taken seriously and all Investigation Officers (IO) of the case should be fully aware of its importance.

Father of two missing men, Saeedullah and Abdullah, had pleaded to the court that he only has two sons and both have disappeared.  He said that his son Saedullah disappeared from Zia Colony on July 4, 2017, and his other son disappeared similarly after one year.

He claimed that his both sons were apprehended by a Rangers officer. The counsel of the petitioner said that this particular rangers officer had contacted his client on his cell phone and told him that his children would be released.

“We applied for registering a first information report (FIR) against this particular officer but the Investigation Officer (IO) intentionally registered an FIR against unknown men,” he said.

Moreover, the wife of missing Hussain told the court that no one has a clue about her missing husband’s whereabouts even after the passage of two years.

“When we contacted the police, they claimed that my husband, Niaz Hussain, would be recovered within seven days but it has been two years. Niaz has not been recovered despite seven sessions of the joint investigation team (JIT),” she lamented.

Another woman, wife of missing Azeem Siddiqui, told the court that her husband had also been missing for two years. “My husband went missing from Azizabad. He should be produced before the court if there is any case against him,” she wailed.

The court, while expressing displeasure over the police not being able to recover even one of the 80 missing persons, adjourned the hearing till January 16.
