–Lauds elite security unit for upholding policy of merit

–IGP Javed Saleemi says squad playing pivotal role in controlling crime across city

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Thursday praised the Dolphin Force – an elite security unit of the Punjab Police launched by former CM Shehbaz Sharif – for upholding merit in its recruitment process in line with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led government’s policy.

“Highly educated and brave youth go through different phases of training to join the [Dolphin] force and later prove to be its valuable assets,” he said while addressing the passing out parade of Dolphin Force’s seventh batch held at Chung Police Training Centre.

Attending the parade as chief guest, he inspected the demonstration of practical training and termed the safeguard of the nation’s life and wealth as a sacred duty. He also expressed the hope that the passing out officers will leave no stone unturned to protect the citizens.

“Nothing is more important than maintenance of law and order and modern training of police, provision of latest weaponry, along with best facilities, is our policy. All the required facilities will be provided to the police by the government.”

The role of dolphin force is very important in Punjab and its performance with regard to eradication of crime is satisfying, the chief minister said and added that it was imperative to extend the scope of Dolphin Force to other big cities keeping in view its utility.

“It will also be introduced in Dera Ghazi Khan and other backward areas of the province.”

“I expect the seventh batch of Dolphin Force will prove to be a valuable asset to Punjab Police and its jawans will win the hearts of the people with their good performance and suave behavior,” the chief minister said.

Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Saleemi maintained that street crimes have decreased considerably due to Dolphin Force. He asserted that the importance of training is that of a backbone in the police department.

“Dolphin Force has played a pivotal role in controlling crime, particularly street crime, across the provincial capital since its inception and a robbery attempt foiled by the force has saved Rs70 million of a local bank besides handing over Rs3.4 million to rightful owners.”

It has also unblocked 18,469 spots for traffic, provided first aid to 2,576 injured persons on roads and recovered 291 stolen mobile phones, he added.

At least 881 personnel of Dolphin Force took part in the passing out parade. They will be deployed in five different districts of the province.

Additional Chief Secretary Capt (r) Ejaz, Additional IGP (Training) Tariq Masood Yaseen, Additional IGP (Operations) Azhar Hameed Khokhar, Additional IGP (Elite Police Force) Shahid Haneef, Additional IGP (CTD) Rai Tahir, Lahore CCPO BA Nasir, DIG (Training) Muhammad Idress, DIG (Headquarters) Babar Bakht Qureshi, DIG (Establishment) Sajjad Hassan Manj, DIG (SPU) Sultan Ahmad Chaudhry and Lahore DIG (Operations) Waqas Nazeer were among the officials present on the occasion.
