Reforms in bureaucracy on cards: info minister

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry on Friday said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government was bringing reforms in bureaucracy to enhance efficiency.

“We want to change the typical mindset in bureaucracy,” he said in an interview to a private news channel.

The government wants to bridge the gap being observed in communication, he said, adding that there was a need to ensure capacity building in institutions.

To a question, he said that PPP had been ruling Sindh for the past twenty years. “Same is the case in Balochistan and both the provinces lag behind in development. The previous governments did nothing for their respective provinces,” he said.

Besides agriculture reforms, he said, the government was focusing on poverty alleviation and a better delivery system so that promises made to the people could be fulfilled in a befitting manner.

As far as the progress in PIA and other institutions is concerned, he said, everybody knows what is going on in these institutions.

To another question, Fawad said that soon the big fish involved in corruption would be behind bars as flaws in the system which people like “Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari are aware of” would be rectified.

Appreciating Hamad Azhar and Khusroo Bakhtiar’s efficiency, he said the ministers were working very hard to streamline the system in their respective fields.

“Prime Minister Imran Khan is sincere to the country and wants to implement what he assured the nation during his election campaign.”

The info minister also said that reforms in the National Accountancy Bureau (NAB) are imperative to achieve results.
