Rawalpindi commissioner’s car claims life of navy official

ISLAMABAD: Son of the Rawalpindi commissioner is suspected to have killed an official of the Pakistan Navy in a road accident near the office of Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP), it has emerged.

Sources said that the incident occurred on the night of November 12, 2018, in which a Honda hybrid car, allegedly being driven by son of Rawalpindi Commissioner Jodat Ayaz, hit Imran Ahmed Maqsood, who was on a motorbike.

The motorcyclist was later identified as a Pakistan Navy official who died on the spot.

Sources said that the police officers, in the supervision of the magistrate, reached the site where it emerged that one of the two persons in the vehicle was the commissioner’s son. Both the persons were drunk at the time of the incident and they were transferred to a safe place soon after, sources claimed.

Later, the police said unknown persons killed the Navy officer, however, inside sources claimed that the Margalla police station mentioned Ayaz’s driver in the First Information Report (FIR).

A copy of the FIR stated that the incident occurred around 8.30 pm near the ITP office when a car with number plate EJ-102 hit motorcyclist Imran Ahmed Maqsood who was shifted to the PIMS hospital but succumbed to injuries. The FIR reads that the driver of the car ran away from the spot after the incident, however, the FIR was registered against unknown persons.

Rawalpindi Commissioner Jodat Ayaz, while talking to Pakistan Today, admitted that “the car is in my name and my son was going to the tuition in F-8 with driver Muhammad Nasir at that time”. “We are all still in a state of shock,” he added, clarifying that his son was not drunk.

SHO Athar said he was on a leave that day and diverted the questions to investigation officer Muhammad Ishaq who is yet to respond on the matter.

Islamabad IG’s spokesperson also confirmed that incident has happened and FIR has been registered against the unknown person while police are investigating the case.
