A video of a man kissing and touching ultra Islamist party Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) leader Khadim Hussain Rizvi’s feet has surfaced on social media.
The video is from Rizvi’s trip to Karachi for election campaigning earlier in July. The blasphemy activist was being brought inside the airport on his wheelchair when the person came to greet him.
The page that shared the video captioned it with a sentence that said that the TLP founder was accepting “Halal Ashirwads”.
People on social media expressed their irked opinions. “Lick the dirt beneath (his) shoes as well,” said one comment.
Another person while taking a dig at the feet touching wished the blasphemy activist on the Hindu occasion of Diwali while acknowledging him with a slur often used by Rizvi himself. The media’s ignorance on the matter was also pointed out.
Quite a lot of people had similar opinions about the traditional Hindu greeting.
Ashirwad is the blessing given to younger or junior people by elders in Hindu tradition when the former touch the latter’s feet in respect.
