Threats to army, judiciary cannot be tolerated: Bilawal

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Wednesday said that the threats, made by leaders of the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) during widescale protests after the acquittal of Aasia Bibi in the blasphemy case, cannot be tolerated by any society where there is respect for the rule of law.

Talking to media outside Parliament House, the PPP chief said, “Calls have been made for mutiny in the army, for judges to be killed. This cannot be tolerated by any society which has respect for rule of law. If the [PTI] government is so cowardly that it cannot act against those making these threats then it should go home.”

He further said that it seems that the government is taking a “U-turn” even in when it comes to establishing the state’s writ.

Bilawal also criticised the ruling party over its economic policies. He said the government doesn’t have a foreign or economic policy, adding that the only policy it has is to beg.

“The PTI government has just 10 days to fulfill its 100-days agenda,” Bilawal told reporters. “None of those promises have been fulfilled so far.”

The PPP chief said an increase in the prices of gas and oil have burdened the masses.

Bilawal recalled that PM Imran had promised he would not beg to the world community for aid, but yet his government chose the path of begging.

“The government has added more burden on the common man,” the PPP chief lamented. “It seems the storm of inflation will only get worse in the days to come.”

PPP READY TO EXTEND COOPERATION:

Bilawal said that his party is ready to extend cooperation to the government for further strengthening accountability system in the country.

He said that the opposition parties are ready to sit with the government for accountability, adding that there should be no victimisation. He said that his party supports accountability across the board.

He said that PPP has also assured PTI government its cooperation in the formation of south Punjab province.

He said that his party also support trade in local currency with China. Bilawal said that more debate should be held on economic issues.
