VIDEO: Army lauded for airlifting Sikh pilgrims to safety amid Labbaik’s protests

British High Commissioner Thomas Drew has thanked Pakistan for rescuing British Sikh pilgrims amid the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) led protests across the country.

At least 67 British Sikhs on a pilgrimage to the country during the nationwide protests – against Aasia Bibi’s acquittal – were airlifted to safety by Pakistan Army after they had been left stranded at a service station.

With there being no appreciation from any quarters as the incident went unreported, Drew on Tuesday took to Twitter and expressed his gratitude for the “fantastic response” of the Pakistani authorities.

“Last week the Pakistan Army airlifted to safety 67 British Sikhs on a pilgrimage in Pakistan. They’d been stranded at a service station by the protests. Fantastic response from the Pakistani authorities.  All the pilgrims left the country safely. Thank you,” he said in a statement on his Twitter handle.

He also shared a video of the operation, in which army personnel can be seen shifting the British nationals to a military helicopter landed on the highway.
