CJP Nisar briefed on water scarcity during Mangla Dam visit

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Sunday visited the Mangla Dam along with a delegation of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) where he overviewed the issues related to water scarcity and energy production.

Officials concerned gave the chief justice a detailed briefing on Magla Dam and its powerhouse during his brief stay at the WAPDA Rest House.

The chief justice was informed about the low reception of water, and the decreasing production of electricity in the recent time. Issues related to the expansion project also came under discussion.

WAPDA officials, chief engineer, resident engineer and workers of the powerhouse were also present at this occasion.

CJP Nisar also visited Mangla View Resort and Mangla Fort.

It is worth mentioning here that the authority has recently decided to soon begin the process to purchase land for the construction of Mohmand Dam.

Wapda Chairman Lt Gen. (r) Muzammil Hussain said that WAPDA will pay appropriate compensation to the locals for their land and other assets and also develop infrastructure, health and education facilities and water supply schemes in the area as its corporate social responsibility.

He said Mohmand Dam is immensely important as it will store 1.2 million acre-feet of water for irrigating agricultural land and generating 800 megawatts of energy.
