Investigation shows Sahibzada Jahangir ‘not a convict or fraudster’

Prime Minister Imran Khan’s close aide Sahibzada Jahangir declined the position of “Special Assistant on Foreign Investment” after fake news spread through social media alleging that PTI’s UK leader was a convict and fraudster.

As the fake news spread like wild fire on social media, Sahibzada Jahangir announced his decision not to take the post.

“I am honoured for PM Pakistan’s trust in me as SAPM for Foreign Investments,” he wrote on Twitter. “It is honourary assignment. I would take no salary or benefits. However, in view of fake allegations and media propaganda to malign my character and dignity, it will effect my performance.”

He continued, “To work to attract foreign investments. I cannot permit any controversy and/or problems for my Prime Minister, therefore I have decided to voluntarily withdraw from the assignment. Though in my private capacity I will continue to bring foreign investments to Pakistan.”

According to a report, Sahibzada Jahangir, has served as director of six companies, all of which dissolved from 1970 to 2013. The Companies House record doesn’t show anywhere of his alleged involvement in fraud or corruption and neither has he been convicted for any crime.

The reference numbers of dissolution of all these companies have been shared by Sahibzada Jahangir, who rejected all social media reports and said he has done clean business all his life. He further clarified that he was director of Monza, Zameen, Cupola and Majorlogic and “was just an employee of these companies” and received a salary for his work.”

“How can I bankrupt a company when I am not its shareholder?,” he questioned.

Sahibzada Jahangir said that there was a delay in his utility bills payment because there was a lapse after his wife passed away in 2011 as things transferred to his name.

Sahibzada Jahangir is the elder brother of Fauzia Kasuri and has known Imran Khan for more than three decades. It was at Jahangir’s house that PM Khan’s marriage with Jemima Goldsmith was celebrated soon after their nikkah.

Sahibzada Jahangir has been Imran Khan’s Adviser on Foreign Investment for KP govt and two years ago he was appointed to oversee all of the PTI organisations in Europe and the UK.
