Clashes erupt between PTI, PML-N workers while polling

A number of clashes took place on Sunday between the workers of ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) across different constituencies of Punjab.

After a short argument, the workers of both parties came to blows in a polling station of Farooqabad’s NA-131. The PTI leaders complained that police took the party workers into custody ‘instead of doing justice.’

PTI WORKER ARRESTED:

Another clash between PTI and PML-N workers broke outside the Shamsabad police station in Rawalpindi after which one PTI worker was arrested for attacking police officials.

It took place in Rawalpindi’s UC-21 area and workers resorted to physical attacks. The police officials posted in the area failed to contain the violence, according to footage shown on TV.

New Town and Sadiqabad police station officers to arrive at the scene when the clashes took place.

Khalid Kiani, a PTI worker who had physically attacked police officers, was taken away to Sadiqabad police station by the law enforcement. He is reportedly the nephew of DSP Raja Taifoor.

The situation worsened to the point where Rangers had to be called in to control it. Both groups resorted to the blame-game as things continued to heat up.

Leaders from both parties were instructed to maintain a distance of a kilometre at least between the two groups but workers from both sides refused to leave the area outside the Shamsabad police station.

The workers of both parties also came face-to-face at Lahore’s Lalik Chowk. The party workers chanted slogans against the leaders of their opponents. A police contingent was then called to take control of the situation and maintain law and order.
