A survey by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan found that 28 per cent Pakistanis think that the country’s condition was much better in 1947 at the time of partition of subcontinent than it is today.
A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked “Some people think Pakistan has not progressed much in the last 71 years, while others disagree with this. In your opinion was Pakistan’s condition better in 1947 or is it better now?”
66 per cent of the respondents said that the country is better now, 28 per cent said it was much better in 1947 and 6 per cent were either irresponsive or did not know the answer.
The survey was carried out among a sample of 1,468 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country from August 20 to August 27. The error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95 per cent confidence level.
