K-Electric grid station collapses, major areas suffer power outage

KARACHI:  The city was submerged in darkness as another high-tension line tripped and a power breakdown at K-Electric grid station on Thursday morning left major areas without electricity.

KE Spokesperson Adil Murtaza later issued a statement that electricity supply from the National Grid has been restored and condition across the metropolitan city has been improved.

The affected areas included Defence View, Teachers Society, Defense Housing Authority, Model Colony, and Malir.

Other areas affected were Tariq Bin Ziad Colony, Gulberg, parts of Clifton, Akhtar Colony, Surjani Town, Kashmir Colony, and Mehmoodabad.

This is the second time that the grid station collapsed within the last three days and a third major breakdown within a week.

Official handle of the electric supply company shared that extra high-tension (EHT) power network had tripped.

“Karachi is experiencing a disruption in power supply due to tripping in the EHT Network. Supply from National Grid to the city is off. Restoration work is underway. We will keep you posted on further updates.”

KE later shared an update on the restoration process: “Restoration process is underway in different parts of the city as supply from the National grid has been partially restored. Parts of Gulshan, Fed-B area, Liaquatabad and Korangi have been energised.”

“Partial power supply from the National Grid has been restored successfully. Electricity has been restored at the Airport, Dhabeji and Gharo pumping stations of the Water Board along with Civil Hospital, Jinnah Hospital, Sindh Assembly and Governor House.”
