Enhancement of education fund necessary for progress: Education Minister

 NEW YORK: Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mehmood has stressed the need of upsurge in funds for education at international level for the progress of nations.

While addressing an international conference organised by former British prime minister (PM) Gordon Brown at the occasion of the 73rd general assembly session of United Nations (UN), Shafqat Mehmood said that bringing children in schools is the first and foremost priority of the Pakistani government and Prime Minister Imran Khan.

He said every possible effort will be made in this regard through an increase in funds, however, Pakistan will welcome the participation of international partners too.

He said that there should be on-budget financing to make sure there is no hurdle in financing educational activities.

Moreover, the federal minister met with Jordan’s Minister for Planning and International coordination Dr Mary Kamel Kawar and Canadian Minister for Immigration Ahmad Hassan.

Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina Wajid, Malawi President Arthur Peter Mutharika, World Bank President Jim Young Kin and United Nations (UN) Deputy Secretary-General also attended the meeting.
