Emotional outbursts at IHC as Nawaz, Maryam released

–PML-N leaders, workers in tears over court’s judgement

–Similar scenes witnessed outside Adiala Jail upon Sharif family members’ release

ISLAMABAD: With former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Capt (r) Safdar being provided with an interim relief after their sentence in the Avenfield Reference case was suspended, an emotional aura engulfed the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

As per the details, a large number of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders and workers gathered in and outside the IHC on Wednesday, impatiently waiting for the decision after the court took up Sharif family’s appeal against the Avenfield corruption reference verdict for hearing.

Soon after the decision was announced, hundreds raised slogans such as “Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif”, while some, including PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb, could be seen bursting into tears.

Even more emotional scenes were witnessed outside the Adiala Jail, where a large number of PML-N supporters, along with Senator Dr Asif Kirmani, Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Barrister Zafarullah Khan, Chaudhry Tanveer and Mian Javed Latif, reached to greet their leaders.

Following the trio’s release, party workers took to streets; dancing, distributing sweets and raising slogans in favour of the judgement. “Mian Sahab, I love you,” resonated in the streets of the twin cities.

They said that the decision of the release of their leaders was a proof of the “fact” that he was implicated in the cases “just to keep him out of the election race”. “Truth has prevailed and justice has been served,” they said.

A supporter, while speaking to Pakistan Today, said that Nawaz Sharif, being the most popular leader of the country, could not have been kept away from the masses for long come what may.

“The accountability court had nothing against him [Nawaz] and the drama was staged just to declare Nawaz ineligible for the general polls,” said Zahid Abassi, another PML-N worker.

“One minute of silence should be observed for those apex court judges who had declared Nawaz the ‘Godfather’ and disqualified him without proper trial,” he added.
