ISLAMABAD – After former Indian cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev turned down the invitations to travel to Pakistan to attend the oath taking ceremony of Prime Minister designate Imran Khan, Mohammed Azharuddin and Ajay Jadeja are being roped in as replacements, The Dependent has reliably learnt.
Talking exclusively to The Dependent, the spokesperson of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Fawad Chaudhary confirmed that the invitations have been sent out.
“We are now inviting electables, since our previous strategy didn’t quite work as we had wanted to,” he said. “And we’re hopeful given the experience of the electables that we have short-listed, we will be successful in achieving our goals,” he added.
Chaudhry said that without the support of electables the oath-taking ceremony isn’t possible.
“If you want to become the Prime Minister of Pakistan you need to surround yourself with electables. Hopefully two of those would be coming from India to witness the fulfillment of their contribution to not just Pakistan, but South Asia as a whole.
Sources have further revealed that in case the duo can’t make it to the ceremony, Pakistani cricketers Saleem Malik and Atta-ur-Rehman are next in line.
“If push comes to shove, we’ll just ask Muhammad Asif and Salman Butt to be there,” a senior PTI leader informed The Dependent.
