–Five of the same family had been killed in a land dispute clash on Monday night
LAHORE: Soon after police claimed that the situation in the area was “under control” after Monday night’s killings, an attack was reported at the funeral of Barki firing victims on Wednesday.
According to the details, unknown assailants opened fire at the funeral prayers of five family members, who had been killed in a land dispute clash in the Barki area of the city two days ago.
The attack led to a stampede among the attendees of the funeral; however, no casualties were reported in the incident.
Earlier in the day, police had claimed of taking the situation under control in the area and restoring peace. In a statement issued here, the officials concerned had also claimed of having tracked the culprits and carrying out raids to arrest them.
On Monday night, a fight had broken out between two groups which had resulted in the use of arms. Three of the slain brothers had been identified as Qurban Ali, Abdul Rasheed and Basheer Ahmed.
The next morning, the victims’ family had taken to Faisal Chowk, placed the bodies on the road outside Punjab Assembly and protested against the killings. Following the protest, Lahore DIG (Operations) Shahzad Akbar had assured the bereaved family of justice.
