Govt to provide maximum security to any politician under threat: minister

Information and Culture Department donates Rs1 mln to Public Art and Literary Society

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Ahmed Waqas Riaz on Thursday said that the government had informed different political leaders about the security threats they faced and was ready to provide them with maximum security facilities.

Speaking to media representatives here, Waqas said the caretaker government had already taken necessary measures in this regard and high-profile individuals were being provided box security, but it was also the duty of the leaders to minimize their movement and take security measures on their own.

The minister also said that implementation of the election code of conduct without any discrimination was the prime-most responsibility of the acting government.

Separately, Ahmed Waqas Riaz took part in a tree plantation drive along with journalists outside the Gaddafi Stadium and also planted a sapling there.

Speaking at the occasion, he said that awareness should be created among masses to plant a maximum number of trees for the betterment of the environment as it would also help in decreasing temperature. He also highlighted the role of print and electronic media in this regard.

Earlier, the minister attended an award distribution ceremony of Public Art and Literary Society as the chief guest.

Alhamra Executive Editor Capt (r) Atta Mohammad Khan, Society President Maqbool Chohan, Anwar Rafie, the granddaughter of Sufi Tabbassum and other dignitaries attended the event.

Speaking there, Ahmed Waqas Riaz said that encouragement of those promoting art and culture was very important and such activities should continue.

He also donated Rs1 million to the society on behalf of the Information and Culture Department.
