Traffic police impounds over 2,000 public transport vehicles in capital

ISLAMABAD: Over 2,000 public service vehicles were impounded by the capital’s traffic police (ITP) during the January to June period due to various traffic violations, according to Traffic Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Farrukh Rasheed.

The SSP also said that a crackdown had been initiated after several complaints were received against drivers and conductors of public transport vehicles.

SSP Rasheed added that action was taken against 149,570 vehicles while 2,646 vehicles out of them were impounded for violations including over-charging, misconduct with passengers and accommodating men on women seats and students on rooftops.

Specials squads had also been constituted to cater to such complaints, the SSP added.
