Twitterati react to Avenfield reference verdict

The entire nation came together, yet again, to wait for the historic moment when the accountability court announced its verdict for the Avenfield reference case. Judge Muhammad Bashir read out the 168-page verdict and sentenced former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to 10 years in prison. His daughter Maryam has also been sentenced to seven years and her husband Capt (r) Safdar to one year in jail.

The nation waited for the court to announce the verdict since 12 pm on Friday, but after multiple delays, the court announced the verdict in the presence of media personnel at 4:20 pm.

The country went bonkers as soon as the breaking news hit the TV channels.  Moreover, hashtags like #AvenfieldReference, #شریفوں_کا_انجام, #NawazSharif and #MaryamNawaz started trending on Twitter within seconds. We gathered some tweets that were trending during and after the announcement.

Earlier, the court had reserved its judgment in the case after almost 10 months of proceedings and roughly 80 plus appearances of the former prime minister, his daughter Maryam and Capt (r) Safdar.
