Wheel jam, sit-in announced against petroleum prices

RAWALPINDI/LAHORE: Transporters have announced to observe a complete wheel-jam strike and sit-in next week on July 10 (Tuesday) against the hike in the prices of the petroleum products by the caretaker government.

The transporters have strongly protested against the increase in the prices of the petroleum products and demanded of the caretaker government to take back this step immediately. The decision to increase petroleum prices will trigger inflation and will also increase in fare and in the prices of spare parts of the vehicles.

The government must fix stop-to-stop fare at Rs 20 in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, said Qalander Khan, central chairman of the Suzuki Union, Raja Mohammad Bashir, Malik Zaman Khan and Malang Khan in a joint statement.

In the prevailing situation, they said that they cannot ply their wagons and buses on roads when the petroleum prices have spiralled out of their reach. They announced wheel jam strike and sit–in on July 10 against inflated prices of the petroleum products.

On the other hand, the Judicial Activism Panel (JAP) has challenged the new petroleum prices in the Lahore High Court (LHC) and said that the interim government was dropping petroleum bombshell on the public by toeing footsteps of the former government.
