Jibran Nasir to run for NA, PS seat from Karachi in upcoming general elections

LAHORE: Human rights activist and lawyer Jibran Nasir has decided to contest the upcoming general elections from Karachi.

Nasir confirmed that he would file his nomination papers for NA-247 and PS-11 as an independent candidate.

He had earlier contested from the same constituencies but was not returned to either assembly.

The human rights activist said, “I am filing nomination papers for the national and provincial seats but will eventually contest from one seat when the campaign officially starts as per election schedule.”

“The politics today has been restricted to personalities and cult following due to which the public issues and ideological politics have taken a back seat,” he added.

Nasir is presently part of the legal team in several cases including the Khadija Siddiqui case and the Naqeebullah murder case.

Nasir was also pursuing an appeal against Lal Masjid’s cleric Abdul Aziz.

“The constituency is home to all inhabitants and in order to work for its collective welfare, it is necessary that every group is represented,” he added.
