Charity match: ICC World XI to face West Indies at Lord’s today

LONDON: International Cricket Council (ICC) World XI will face West Indies on Thursday at Lord’s for a good cause.

The match is being played to raise funds to rebuild and restore five cricket facilities in the Carribean that were damaged due to Hurrican Irma and Maria in 2017.

The World XI squad includes one player each from Sri Lanka, Nepal, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, and two players each from Pakistan and New Zealand.

Shoaib Malik is the second player from Pakistan, who is the part of World XI.

Former Pakistan One Day International (ODI) and T20 captain Shahid Afridi will lead World XI against West Indies at Lord’s after Eion Morgan pulled out.

The hard-hitting batsman tweeted: “It’s a great honour to be leading the ICC World XI side, that too for such a good cause. I’m sure all the players from either side are looking forward to the match with great enthusiasm and people will get to see some high-quality cricket on Thursday.”
