KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday issued contempt of court notices to officials of K-Electric (KE) and National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) over a petition.
The notices have been issued to KE CEO Tayyab Tareen, chief generation and transmission officer, head of distribution, CEO distribution and Chairman NEPRA Brigadier (r) Tariq Saddozai and vice-chairman Syed Masoodul Hassan Naqvi.
The petition said that the court had ordered both authorities to increase their capacity and generate more electricity for the metropolitan city.
The petition further said that NEPRA issued a show-cause notice to KE on May 25, 2016, adding that the court had ordered NEPRA to ensure the implementation of the show-cause notice.
NEPRA, however, has remained unable to implement its decision regarding KE, the petition added.
The fault in Bin Qasim Plant shows that KE has remained unable to increase its capacity, the petition mentioned, requesting the court to start contempt proceedings against NEPRA and KE.
Meanwhile, power outages continue to plunge different parts of Karachi in darkness during Sehri and Iftar.
