Three female students in Gujrat attacked with acid for rejecting marriage proposal

GUJRAT: Three men riding a motorcycle threw acid on two sisters and their friend in the Dang district of Gujrat on Thursday.

According to reports, the three girls, who are said to be students of the University of Gujrat, were waiting at a bus stop to go to university when the men riding a motorbike approached them and threw acid. The reason behind the attack was revealed to be the rejection of a marriage proposal.

The girls were taken to Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital where they are being treated at the burn unit.

Danga police station SHO Ameer Abbas told media outlets that the primary suspect was the uncle of the two sisters who were attacked. Another accused was identified as the uncle’s friend.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Inspector General of Police Arif Nawaz took notice of the incident, ordering the Gujranwala regional police officer and Gujrat district police officer to submit a detailed report of the incident.

The passers-by apprehended one of the suspects and handed him over to the police. He is in custody and under investigation.

The search for the remaining two suspects is underway.

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Inspector General of Police Arif Nawaz have taken notice of the incident and have asked the district police officer to submit a report. CM Sharif has demanded immediate action to be taken against the perpetrators and has also called for the victims to be provided with the best medical care.

The police have been directed to arrest the suspects within 24 hours.
