Err we actually resigned at the start of government tenure, South Punjab Front clarifies

LAHORE – The eight Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz lawmakers, including six MNAs and two MPAs, that parted ways with the ruling party on Monday, announcing the launch of South Punjab front, have on Thursday refuted allegations of opportunism, claiming their move is based on principle.

“Err we actually resigned at the right start of the government tenure,” said Khusro Bakhtiar while talking to media in Lahore, answering a question about the timing of the move just as the ruling government’s tenure is about to end and elections approaching.

“This shows our true stand, political transparency and that we are not jumping the ship because the tenure is ending and we want to change the party. No, not at all,” Bakhtiar added.

When reminded by a journalist that this government’s tenure is going to end in little over a month, Bakhtiar simply replied, “We are talking about the Shahid Khaqan Abbasi government. He came to the office only a few months ago.”

The South Punjab Front (SPF) Chairman Balakh Sher Mazari said the group wants rights for the people of South Punjab.

“Especially those rights about which the locals emailed us yesterday, prompting us to take this decision the very next day,” he said.

Mazari also clarified that the abbreviation for the front is SPF. “It’s not SPOOF – only S.P.F – there’s no spoof here, trust me.
