Govt mulls permanent ban on ‘terror’ groups including JuD: report

ISLAMABAD: The government is working on forming a draft bill to replace the presidential ordinance that permanently banned Jamatud Dawa (JuD), other individuals and groups on interior ministry’s watch list, reported a local English newspaper.

The sources stated that this proposed bill to amend the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) 1997, was likely to be presented in the next session of the National Assembly, scheduled to commence on April 9.

The law ministry was involved in the process of shaping the proposed draft bill, the sources said, adding that military leadership was also on the board.

The federal government has decided to develop the draft bill to change the ATA as part of its damage-control efforts after the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) approved a nomination proposal presented jointly by US, France, Germany and UK.
