Country’s progress linked to elimination of corruption: NAB chairman

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is sticking to its policy of ‘Accountability for All’ as it believes that the country can only become prosperous when corruption is completely eliminated from the society.

This was stated by NAB Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal while listening to public complaints at an open court on Thursday. He said that the bureau was handling the process of complaint verification, inquiries, and investigations on merit and in accordance with the law.

The chairman also directed the officers concerned to conduct probes into all complaints submitted by complainants in a transparent way. He said the country was shouldering the burden of $84 billion foreign debt but nobody could tell where such a huge amount of capital had been spent.

He further said that elimination of corruption was possible if each member of the society worked towards achieving this most important goal.

He said that NAB had deposited a sum of Rs289 billion in the national exchequer after making recoveries from the corrupt. This had been made possible due to earnest efforts of NAB officers, he added.

Moreover, Javed Iqbal said that the excellent performance of NAB had been lauded by leading foreign and local organisations, including Transparency International, World Economic Forum and Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT) in their reports, adding it was a great honour for the country and NAB.

The complainants at the open court thanked the NAB chairman for addressing their complaints and for taking across-the-board action against corruption in Pakistan.
