Research of Pakistani doctors appreciated at UK diabetes conference

LONDON/LAHORE: The research papers, presented by three Pakistani doctors serving at Lahore General Hospital (LGH), earned appreciation and applause from the participants of the five-day Diabetes UK Professional Conference 2018 held in London.

In their research, the Pakistani doctors covered the factors, treatment and the increasing ratio of diabetes in Pakistan. It was remarked as the largest research work presented at the conference.

Assistant professors Dr Maleeha Hameed and Dr Salman Shakeel participated in the conference. Upon their return, they met with Principal Post Graduate Medical Institute Prof Dr Ghias-un-Nabi Tayyab. Their supervisor Dr Imran Hassan Khan also attended the meeting.

Dr Maleeha and Dr Salman said that their research papers were related to diabetes among women during pregnancy. They also discussed the foot injury caused by diabetes and causes of the type 2 diabetes. They exchange their views with the participants who listened to them keenly.

According to their research, diabetes was on the rise among Pakistani youngsters and at least 78 per cent of the people had become diabetes patients below 45. They stated that the major causes of the disease were obesity and insufficient exercise.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Ghias-un-Nabi Tayyab said that the need for research in the health sector had increased in order to combat diabetes and other diseases. He said that the participation of LGH doctors in the international health conferences had earned praise for the hospital and country.

He added that it had encouraged research in the health sector. He congratulated the doctors of LGH on their successful tour to the diabetes conference.
