Imran Khan criticises PM for ‘not respecting SC’s verdict’

  • PTI chairman says PML-N could’ve supported his party’s proposals to change format of Senate elections

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday criticised Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for “not respecting Supreme Court’s verdict”, saying how can others be expected to respect the SC’s verdict when the country’s prime minister is not doing the same.

In a series of posts on Twitter, Imran wrote: “If the PM of the country is not prepared to accept and respect judgement of the SC, how can others be expected to do so?”

The PTI chief criticised the prime minister for “crying over” alleged horse-trading in Senate elections.

On Saturday, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had floated a proposal for the nomination of a new Senate chairman.

Addressing an event, the prime minister had urged the members of the opposition to jointly nominate a new Senate chairman in a bid to save the country for disgrace.

Challenging the nomination of recently-elected Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, the PM claimed that the Sanjrani was elected on bought votes and invited the opposition to amicably dissolve the matter to avoid disgrace.

He said the Senate chairman also serves the acting president and if Sanjrani becomes one, the act will bring dishonour to the country across the world.

In a social media post, the PTI chairman remarked that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) could’ve supported PTI’s proposals to change the format of the Senate elections.

He wrote: “So now PM Abbasi is crying abt horse-trading & money deciding Senate elections! If his party was so concerned why didn’t they support PTI’s proposals to change Senate election format to prevent exactly these shenanigans?”

Imran asked the prime minister how did Panama case derail development when it indicated that former premier Nawaz Sharif was laundering money, questioning the ‘histrionics’ of PM Abbasi.

“Does PM Abbasi feel a money launderer shd be above the law bec of some imagined ongoing development,” Imran asked.

He also questioned if PM regards the “debilitating $10bn money laundering per year” a non-issue.

Imran also asked whether PM Abbasi thinks that Nawaz Sharif was involved in money laundering or not. “If he thinks he is, then how can Abbasi as PM condone crime of money laundering? If Abbasi thinks NS is not guilty of money laundering then he is more foolish than one thought.”
