Skipper Imad Wasim is fine: Karachi Kings coach

DUBAI: Amid the thrilling match between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings, the latter’s captain Imad Wasim received a nasty injury as his head bumped on the ground while talking a catch running backwards.

Imad was quickly taken off the field and the most senior player in the team, Shahid Afridi, captained the side until the end.

Kings confirmed that Imad was fine and would be kept in the hospital overnight. “Alhumdulilah he is strong and doing well… all our prayers for the #skipper,” said the franchise owner Salman Iqbal.

During the post-match press talk, Kings coach Mickey Arthur informed that Imad “will stay in for observation” and he had remained in the hospital “to have a CT scan”. Arthur reiterated that Imad seemed alright.

He joked, “It’s probably just knocked some sense into him actually. That’s a joke! I don’t want it to appear on the front pages of all the newspapers.”

It was announced that the 29-year-old all-rounder had a mild concussion but his vitals were fine.

Brendon McCullum-led Qalandars won the fierce battle in the super over encounter, causing an upset to the steady Kings’ ship. The Kings coach admitted that his team made a lot of ‘schoolboy errors’, and stressed to assess the performance.

He backed premier pacer Usman Khan Shinwari, saying, “the poor guy is devastated in the changing room but he will learn from that experience.”

“As long as young Pakistani players are developing, I am really happy.”
