JUI-F recommends Rabbani as joint candidate for Senate chairman

ISLAMABAD: The ruling party, Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) suffered a severe shock on Monday when its ally Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam – Fazl (JUI-F), in a bid to stop horse-trading, suggested Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani’s name as the joint candidate for the new Senate chairman.

JUI-F leader and Senate Deputy Chairman Abdul Ghafoor Haideri told a private TV channel that his party had suggested Rabbani’s name for the new Senate chairman so that the apprehension of horse trading on a larger scale could be removed.

“If both major parties, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and PML-N agree on the name of Rabbani as the joint candidate then horse-trading would be stop,” he said, adding that it would also pave the way for a peaceful transition of power.

“There is no other name on which both parties can agree,” he said.
