63.87 men, 49.09 women registered with NADRA to-date: Talal

ISLAMABAD: Interior State Minister, Talal Chaudhry on Monday informed the Senate that 63.87 million men and 49.09 women were registered with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to date.

Responding to a motion by Senator Mohsin Aziz to discuss the non-issuance of CNICs to a large number of women in the country which was resulting in the non-registration of their names in the voter’s list, the minister said that although there was a gap of 30 million between male and female registrations, the government was committed to providing assistance to facilitate women in registering their names with NADRA.

He said that the government had established separate centres throughout the country to facilitate women for registering their names and that two days in a week – Friday and Saturday- had been dedicated especially to women.

The minister further informed that the government was in the process of hiring new female staff to facilitate women and that NADRA and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had also launched a drive for registering female voters.

Talal Chaudhry said that from October to February, as many as 7,38,705 women got their names registered with the authority. During the year 2017, more than 2.2 million women were registered with NADRA as voters.
He said that all regional offices of NADRA were given a target to register 1,600,00 new voters.
