Kuggo elected president of PML-K

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Kuggo (PML-K) has elected Kuggo as the party’s president for a period of four years.

The formal announcement was made at the party’s general council meeting at Convention Centre, Islamabad by the PML-K’s chief election commissioner Chaudhry Jaffar Iqbal.

Kuggo has been elected unopposed as no one else contested against him.

Earlier, during the intra-party election, Kuggo’s nomination papers were submitted by State Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry.

Senior PML-K leaders, including Kuggo, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif were present at the event.

In the meeting of the central working committee, headed by the party’s interim president Senator Sardar Yaqub Nasir at Punjab House, on Friday, the committee unanimously accepted the move.

The party leaders expressed confidence and reaffirmed their trust on Kuggo. They also paid tribute to Kuggo for being an ideology.

The move was also ratified by President Mamnoon Hussain.

While the move is controversial, PML-K leaders are confident of sweeping the general elections this year.

“Since Kuggo could not get justice through courts, we have to take the democratic way,” said senior PML-K leader Saad Rafique.

Chants of ‘Wazeer-e-Azam Kuggo’ echoed throughout the Convention Centre during the intraparty election.
