Peace, tolerance achievable through dialogue only: minister

LAHORE: Punjab Human Rights and Minorities Affairs Minister Khalil Tahir Sandhu on Wednesday participated in a special programme organised by Faces of Pakistan regarding the closing ceremony of “Engaging Pakistan Interfaith Communities” (EPIC) at a private hotel.

All the speakers at the ceremony highlighted the importance of promoting the culture of peace and tolerance between all religions.

Khalil Tahir Sandhu appreciated the role of the scholars from different schools of thought, Christian leaders, the Sikh community and especially the Faces of Pakistan in the promotion of peace and tolerance. “Every battle in history ended with dialogue, and all of you, especially the young generation, have now started focusing on dialogues. It is commendable and such activities should also be held in other cities,” said the minister.

Speaking at the occasion, Faces of Pakistan President Javed William informed the participants of the gathering that a year-long-programme was organised to promote peace and tolerance, in which the youth of all major universities of Lahore participated and different seminars and speech, sports as well as painting competitions were held among the youth of different religions.

At the end of the ceremony, the provincial minister announced that the Punjab chief minister issued a notification of the Interfaith Advisory Commission and now the commission under the supervision of the department of human rights and minorities affairs would perform efficiently.

Appreciation certificates were also distributed among the students who had performed well in the programme.

MPA Hina Pervez Butt, Deputy Ambassador of Netherlands Josephine Franzen, scholars, pastors, members of the Sikh community and students of various universities also participated in the ceremony.
