ABBOTTABAD: Police have claimed to have arrested the 15th person accused in the murder of a young girl, Ambreen Riasat, on Sunday, as reported by a local English daily.
Ambreen Riasat was burnt to death for allegedly helping a couple elope in 2016. According to details, the accused Majid Mala was one of the members of the Jirga that had decided to burn Ambreen to death in 2016. 14 members had been arrested within days of the event.
A 15-member jirga called by the Makool village councillor Pervez had ordered for the deceased, Amber, to be set on fire. The body of the teenage girl was found in a burnt Suzuki van in Donga Gali on Friday.
The body was tied to the seat of the vehicle, which was parked at a bus stop in the village. Another vehicle parked near the van was also damaged.
The girl was later identified as the daughter of Riasat, a labourer who works in Balochistan’s Gadani area.
Police officials said today the jirga ordered the murder to punish the girl for supporting the alleged affair of her friend with a boy.
A couple of months earlier, Ambreen’s friend Saima was killed for allegedly being in love with a boy.
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Khurram Rasheed, a couple left Makool April 23 for Abbottabad with the girl’s help and a driver named Naseer. A jirga was called on April 28 at Naseer’s home when the couple could not be found.
