PTI to challenge Ishaq Dar’s Senate nomination

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday decided to challenge Ishaq Dar’s nomination papers as a PML-N candidate for the upcoming Senate elections in March.

The PTI is of the opinion that currently, there is a corruption case against Ishaq Dar which is being heard by the NAB court and a person embroiled in such a case should not be able to contest in any elections.

PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry will lead a legal team to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and challenge the nomination papers of the disgraced ex-Finance Minister.

Dar has submitted his nomination papers from Punjab where PML-N maintains a heavy majority in the provincial assembly.

PML-N is likely to attain 25 more seats in the Senate with elections in the upper house due on March 3. Prime Minister Media Affairs Special Assistant Musadik Malik, London PML-N president Zubair Gul, Haroon Akhtar, ex-IGP of Sindh Rana Maqbool, Farooq Khan and Shaheen Butt are also the ruling party’s Senate candidates.

PML-N Communication Federal Minister MNA Hafeez will not contest in the 2018 general elections after being given the Senate ticket.

From Islamabad, son of ex-PM Muhammad Khan Junejo – Asad Junejo – will also be given a ticket apart from Mushahid Hussain. Spiritual healer Sabir Shah in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Mir Afzal Mandokhail in Balochistan will contest in the Senate polls too.
